You and your family, colleagues, or caregivers are invited to join for one, some, or all discussions of this conference.

Since 2007, the Downeast Living With Cancer Conference has been bringing cancer survivors together to share experiences with each other and to inspire each other. Streaming via zoom this year on Thursday, November 4th, the conference will focus on emotional, physical, and nutritional well-being. Starting with the events keynote speaker, James Jarvis, MD, FAAFP, Director of Clinical Education at Northern Light EMMC, the entire conference will focus on the theme of “living with cancer in the time of a pandemic”.

    “The Coronavirus: What we know, where we are and our hope going forward”

    Jim Jarvis, MD is a practicing family physician and the Director of Clinical Education for Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center overseeing the research and education divisions. He has served as the clinical lead physician for Northern Light Health’s response to COVID-19 since early on in the pandemic.

  • Susan Corbett

    “Telemedicine and connecting to your health care provider”

    Ms. Corbett is a preeminent authority and advocate for digital equity and digital inclusion, and works closely with economic development and rural organizations to promote broadband adoption. In the fall of 2017, Ms. Corbett launched the National Digital Equity Center, a program of the Axiom Education & Training Center, collaborating with local and global change-makers, relentlessly driving disruptive strategies to close the digital divide in Maine and across the United States.

    Samantha Williams is certified as a Cancer Exercise Specialist, E-RYT 500, and as an American Council on Exercise Certified Personal Trainer. She provides strategies to start moving and stay moving. In partnership with the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center, Samantha leads an on-going weekly, virtual exercise class based in Machias. In addition to classes, Samantha offers online and in-person yoga teacher training programs through Bold Coast Yoga School: boldcoastyoga.com .

    “Mindfulness, Meditation, and Resiliency In Your Cancer Journey”

    Dealing with cancer is hard enough without throwing in living during a pandemic along with it! How can we cultivate more calm, clarity, balance, and steadiness in the midst of these challenging times? Jen Harry, local Mindfulness, Meditation, Resiliency Trainer will share some tips and tools on how to deal with the emotional ups and downs and what we can do to increase our own emotional resilience.

  • Judy Donnelly

    “Wholesome & Healthy - Supporting Eating Habits”

    Judy Donnelly is a licensed, registered dietitian with twenty years of experience working with oncology patients and people with a wide range of health concerns.  She joined the Dempsey Center in 2015, and has practiced in a variety of settings, including group work, corporate wellness, cooking classes, and private consultations. She has great passion and skill for helping clients meet their nutritional goals and translating the science of nutrition into wholesome and health-supporting eating habits.

  • Brian Ross

    “Survivorship - Finding Purpose After Treatment For Cancer”

    Brian is a local cancer survivor, celebrating his one-year cancer-free anniversary this October 2021. He chooses to wake up every day and support others facing this illness. Brian is a Hampden native, working in the local school district as the head chef. With his passion to support and inspire others facing a cancer diagnosis and his love of cooking and nutrition, he volunteers with the Christine B. Foundation and personally helps 50+ families every week through their cancer nutrition assistance program.

    Yes. Once you register, you may join the conference at your leisure. We will be using one zoom link for the entire program.
