You and your family, colleagues, or caregivers are invited to join for one, some, or all discussions of this conference.

Join us on Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 9 – 12:30 pm for the Bangor Region Cancer Conference. The theme of the conference is  ‘Building A Toolkit for Your Cancer Journey.The conference will offer cancer survivors and caregivers a wide variety of tools to navigate their way through all aspects of a cancer experience, including:

·       Personal empowerment

·       Effective communication options

·       Resource-discovery ideas

·       Decision-making techniques

 

In addition to these skills, there will be interactive workshop opportunities to explore emotional, spiritual, and complementary healing options to have the best complete experience possible.

The conference is free, open to all and is offered on Zoom.

    Dr. Rob Rutledge is a Radiation Oncologist and Associate Professor in the Faculty of Medicine at Dalhousie University, based in Halifax, Nova Scotia. In addition to his commitment to specializing in breast, prostate, and pediatric cancers, he generously invests his personal time as a dynamic and passionate speaker, presenting scientific knowledge and providing insight gained from serving people dealing with life-threatening diseases. He has touched the hearts and minds of thousands with his compassion and wisdom.

    For the past 11 years, he has been delivering Skills for Healing Cancer Weekend Retreats and delivering the keynote and workshop addresses offering an inspiring message of the beauty of integrating wisdom and love on a cancer journey.

  • Stephanie McLeod-Estevez

    Art Therapy- Your Mobile Emotional First Aid Kit

    Stephanie McLeod-Estevez, LCPC is an art therapist and breast cancer survivor/thriver. At 26, Stephanie McLeod-Estevez was her mom's caregiver as she died of metastatic breast cancer, motivating her to become an art therapist. Then, at 40, Stephanie herself was diagnosed with Stage 3a Triple Negative breast cancer (TNBC). Now Stephanie runs Creative Transformations, where she blends her lived experience and professional expertise, to enhance the health and wellness of the cancer community. Through social media, online workshops, and her virtual Art Therapy for the Breast Cancer community, Stephanie delivers the information, tools, and mentorship you need to thrive.

  • Sarah Domarecki

    Breakout Session: 10-11

    Writing Workshop

    Consider the power of our written words and how they make sense of and bring meaning to our life experiences. Led by Sara Domareki, this workshop will enable people living with chronic disease and their caregivers to process some of their experiences and related feelings through writing. This session will include material from the facilitator, group discussion, writing, and sharing of that writing, as much as the participants feel comfortable, in a confidential, supportive, and non-judgmental environment.

    Sarah Domareki is a trained writing teacher with an MA in English and Creative Writing, with extensive experience teaching writing, French, history and visual art in the Ellsworth are. Sarah is also a cancer survivor. She wishes to use the gift of survival to help others process their own experiences.

    “Review of NCCS Cancer Survivor Checklist”

    -

    Veronika Panagiotou, PhD, Advocacy and Program Manager at NCCS and Cora Fahy, PTA, will focus on the National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship’s mission is to advocate for quality cancer care for all people touched by cancer. 

    NCCS often hear from cancer survivors that they wish they would have received more information regarding their care earlier in their cancer journey. They feel especially isolated when transitioning from active treatment into survivorship care. The Cancer Survivorship

    The checklist is designed to be tool survivors and caregivers can use as a guide for information critical to their care wherever they are on the cancer care continuum.

    The checklist includes the following topics:

    -Care Plan

    -Emotional and Mental Health

    -Supportive Services

    -Financial Health

    -Work and School Considerations

    -Estate and Legacy Planning

  • Lelania Harpal Kuar Avila

    “Parenting Through Childhood Cancer: Reliance on Community, Self-Care, and Faith”

    _

    Lelania Harpal Kaur Avila (she/we/tributary), 'Momcologist' and multi-media artist, builds community through healing arts. She playfully approaches challenges, utilizing the guidance of emotions to tune into inner wisdom. She offers deep listening and shares restorative tools that strengthen flexibility, communication, intuition, relaxation and more.

    She will discuss navigating the terrain of parenting through Childhood Cancer. Tools included requesting and receiving support from family, friends and community; emotional response-ability honed from years of breathwork, and meditation; and a deep connection to the Divine, nature, and accepting the Mystery of Life.

    Yes. Once you register, you may join the conference at your leisure. We will be using one zoom link for the entire program.

  • I have never used Zoom before. Could you help me set up an account and access the series online?

    Yes. You can notify us that you’re looking for help during your registration. Someone from the Beth C. Wright Cancer Resource Center or the Christine B. Foundation will be in contact with you for a Zoom training.
